After obtaining his Master’s degree from a Los Angeles college in Audio Visual Communications in the late 1970s, Larry Cheung Hoi-ching returned to Hong Kong to work as a screenwriter. After writing the screenplays to Mysterious Foot-Work of Kung Fu (1978) and Goose Boxer (1979), both starring Charles Heung, he went to Taiwan to work for Chinese Television System as scriptwriter, script supervisor and producer. His most notable output as writer included the television series The Legend of Wisely (1983), A Sword Named Revenge (1985), Shadow Dancer (1985) and Jade Tiger (1985) Cheung won the Best Screenplay Award at the Golden Bell Awards for Shadow Dancer. In addition to his work in the television industry, he also lectured in film and television theory at Shih Hsin University. In the 1990s, he produced and directed the films Devil’s Vendetta (1991) and The Sword Stained With Royal Blood (1993).
In recent years, Cheung has worked mostly in Mainland China. He wrote the scripts to various Hong Kong-China co-produced TV series. In 2010 he produced, wrote and directed the romantic suspense drama Virtual Recall.
