Dennis Chiu Chun-keung is a Hong Kong native who graduated from Television Broadcasts Limited’s (TVB) first ever artist training programming. He switched to working behind the scenes not long after, starting as director’s assistant and becoming director in 1975. From the time he got promoted to the role of producer in 1978 till he left TVB in 1985, Chiu was responsible for the production of over 20 highly popular television drama series, including classics such as Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre (1978), The Twins (1979), The Bund (1980), Police Cadet (1984) and The Battle Among the Clans (1985)— some of which have propelled the careers of future stars like Chow Yun-fat and Tony Leung Chiu-wai.
In 1980, Chiu made his debut as a feature film director with The Story of a Refugee. He was also credited for The Bund (1983) and The Bund Part II (1983), which were condensed from the TVB series The Bund. Chiu later co-directed Sex Beyond the Grave (1984) with Lee Tai-heng, the former assistant director of several Lau Kar-leung productions. Chiu joined Asia Television Limited (ATV) in 1989 and, after producing Police Archives, Police Archives II and other drama series, left in 1990. He then turned his focus to television and film productions in mainland China, such as directing the timetravel comedy 4 Beauties (2009), which was shot in China.
