Born in Hong Kong, Stanley Ko Moon-kai entered the film industry in the early 1980s and had served as assistant director or producer for such directors as Yuen Woo-ping, Stephen Shin, Jeff Lau, Ricky Lau Koon-wai and Clifton Ko.
In 1988, Ko take up the role of executive director on Jeff Lau’s Operation Pink Squad (1988). Given directorial credit the next year, he co-directed It’s A Mad, Mad World III (1989) with Stephen Shin. He then made his solo debut with Running Mate (1989). Later, after directing the self-financed The Never Ending Love Story (1994), Ko left the film industry to go into business.
