 Biography

Joseph Kong Hung was born in Taiwan. Of Filipino descent, his original name is Joseph Velasco. He entered the film industry in the early 1970s and became a director with the action film Tough Guy (1972), starring kung-fu star Chen Sing. He followed with a series of action films, for the companies Goldig Film, Eternal Film and First Film.

After the death of Bruce Lee, Kong tried to fill the void by grooming Bruce Le as replacement, directing Le in a series of martial arts flicks, including Bruce’s Fingers (1976), Bruce Secret Kung Fu (1976), Treasure of Bruce Le (1977), Bruce and the Shaolin Bronzemen (1980) and Bruce Strikes Back (1982). Many of his later films were co-productions with Philippines, dubbed in Mandarin, Cantonese, English and Tagalog (Philippines’s most common dialect).
