Lam Chin-wai started his career working as assistant director and scriptwriter. In the 1970s, he served as Chang Cheh’s assistant director on Na Cha the Great (1974) and Shaolin Martial Arts (1974), as well as writing the screenplay for Soul of the Sword (1978) and The Brothers (1979). He also worked as assistant director for Hua Shan on these films.
Lam became a director in 1980 when he wrote and directed the martial arts film Super Power. In the next two decades, he made a total of 14 features, most of which were action films.
