Law Wing-cheong joined TVB in 1989 as production assistant, moving up to director in 1994, directing drama series. He went into film in 1997, working as assistant director on such films as Expect the Unexpected (1998), A Hero Never Dies (1998), Where a Good Man Goes (1999) and Running out of Time (1999). He also acted as executive director for Johnnie To’s The Mission (1999). His work as editor for To’s Needing You (2000) was nominated for Best Editing at the 45th Asia Pacific Film Festival.
Making his directorial debut with Running Out of Time 2 (2001), Law received the Best Editing prize for the film at the 39th Golden Horse Awards. Since then, he had remained at To’s Milkway Image, serving as editor and executive director for To while putting together his own directorial projects.
Law was named Best New Director by the Hong Kong Film Awards for 2 Become 1 (2006), which he directed and edited. His Hooked On You (2007) was included in the Recommended Films list of the Hong Kong Film Critics Society, as was his Tactical Unit: Comrades in Arms (2009), which was also shown at the Far East Film Festival of Udine, Italy, the Taipei International Film Festival and other events.
