Dick Lee Kwok-fai was born in Hong Kong in 1969. He joined TVB in 1987 as a production assistant, but left in 1993 to pursue a career in films. He had served in many posts within the film industry such as continuity person, assistant director, scriptwriter, assistant producer and props assistant. Lee also worked for music production companies to produce musical programs. In addition to working in Hong Kong on television series and commercials, Lee started working in 1996 for Malaysia’s TV8 and TV3 channels to produce music-related shows. In 2001 he got the chance to make his first feature, Take 2 in Life, a Hong Kong-Malaysia co-production. After filming a show about vegetarianism in Malaysia, Lee became interested in Buddhism and shifted his career focus towards being a stage director for Buddhism-related activities. In 2006, he filmed a television series, Reality of Cause and Effect, for the Amitabha Buddhist Society. He started preparing for the film The Biography of Siddhartha in 2011, which was finally completed three years later. The film is a chronicle of the Buddha’s path towards enlightenment and compassion.
