Lee Tai-heng started working at Shaw Brothers as an assistant director in the late 1970s, during which he worked under director Lau Kar-leung on numerous films, including Mad Monkey Kung Fu (1979), Dirty Ho (1979), Return to the 36th Chamber (1980) and Martial Club (1981). In addition, he was the scriptwriter on Lau Kar-leungdirected films like My Young Auntie (1981), The Legendary Weapons of China (1982) and The Lady is the Boss (1983). His final collaboration with Lau was on Tiger on Beat (1988). In 1984, he co-directed Sex Beyond the Grave with Dennis Chiu Chun-keung, following that with Flirting (1988).
In 2012, Lee established Infilm Production in Taiwan, producing short films, documentaries and commercials.
