Angela Mak Ling-chi started as a director at TVB In the early 1980s. In 1983 she directed one segment of the omnibus film I Do!, starring Alan Tang Kwong-wing, which also included works by two other female directors, Hilda Chan and Annette Sham. In 1984, she wrote and directed the suspense drama The Siamese Twins, which stirred attention for featuring popular TV actress Idy Chan in erotic scenes. Her 1986 work Parking Service was a story about a parking attendant’s infatuation with a beautiful woman. In addition to directing, Mak had also appeared in films, mostly in cameos, but played a major role in the Wong Chung-directed Cops in the Town.
