 Biography

Danny Pang Fat was born in Hong Kong in 1965. He and his twin brother Oxide made their directorial debut in Thailand with the action film Bangkok Dangerous (1999), which won the International Critics’ Award at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2000. In 2002, Peter Chan invited the brothers to film in Hong Kong, where they teamed up to write and direct The Eye—a horror film that triumphed critically and financially while also establishing their reputation in the suspense and horror genre. The pair then co-directed The Eye II (2004), The Eye 10 (2005), Re-cycle (2006), The Child’s Eye (2010), among other horror films, along with The Storm Warriors—a live-action adaptation of the comic book of the same name. In 2007, the brothers made the leap to Hollywood and directed The Messengers, before remaking their first film, Bangkok Dangerous, with Nicholas Cage and Charlie Young a year later.

The twins have also worked separately. In 2004, Danny made his solo directorial debut with Leave Me Alone—a black comedy starring Ekin Cheng and Charlene Choi. Later, he also directed Forrest of Death (2006), In Love with the Dead, Seven 2 One (2009) and Fairy Tale Killer (2012). The brothers’ latest collaboration is the disaster film Out of Inferno (2013)—the first Chinese-language fire disaster film in 3D. It features actors Sean Lau, Louis Koo and Angelica Lee.

Pang has produced many films, including his brother Oxide’s Ab-Normal Beauty (2004), The Detective (2007); and Cub Chien’s Scare 2 Die (2008). He is also known for his editing, having collaborated with director Andrew Lau on numerous occasions, including The Storm Riders (1998), A Man Called Hero (1999), Sausalito (2000), For Bad Boys Only (2000), Bullets of Love (2001), Dance of a Dream (2001), Infernal Affairs (2002), Infernal Affairs II (2003) and Infernal Affairs III (2003). He was also the editor of Carol Lai’s Glass Tears (2001) and The Floating Landscape (2003); Mabel Cheung’s Beijing Rocks (2001); and Gordon Chan’s Cat and Mouse (2003). He had won Best Editing twice at the Hong Kong Film Awards for The Storm Riders and Infernal Affairs while being nominated three other times, for The Eye, Infernal Affairs II and Internal Affairs III.
