Sherman Wong is also known as Wong Sha-man. He started out as an actor and stuntman working under Hon Yee-sang at Rediffusion Television, and participated in numerous TV series. Wong became a martial arts coordinator on feature films in 1982 and designed the action sequences in Brothers from Walled City (1982) together with Wong Ching. In the mid-1980s, Wong frequently took on the posts of martial arts coordinator and assistant director on the same film, as with The Intellectual Trio (1985) and The Crazy Companies (1988). On How to Pick Girls Up!, Wong was promoted to the position of deputy director. In addition, Wong also appeared frequently in front of the camera.
Wong made his directorial debut in 1988 with The Romancing Star III, written and produced by Wong Jing. The film grossed over HK$10 million and successfully established Wong’s reputation within the film industry.
