Yu Mang-san worked as production assistant at Rediffusion (now ATV) in the late 1970s, moving on to director in 1982. In 1994, he directed the television series Brother Destined (1994) for Taiwan's Broadcasting Development Foundation and won Best Director at the Golden Bell Awards. Since 2000, he had worked in Mainland China directing television dramas, making such series as Torn Between Two Lovers (2007) and Arrows on the Bowstring (2012). His latest works are Extremely Urgent (2014) and The Virtuous Queen of Han (2014). Yu had directed two films in the 1990s, the martial arts film Zen of Sword (1992) and the action thriller Where's My Gun (1996).
